Discovery Church of the Nazarene

    Our purpose is to do what Jesus did: engage with the culture. Jesus went out in the market place and spent time with people. He met them where they were. He made a difference in their lives as he introduced them to a love relationship with his Father rather than to the rules and regulations that left so many disconnected and disillusioned with the religious establishment.

    Coffee is currently the most widely consumed beverage in the world and people are connecting at local coffee houses. Since we want to engage with people who will never darken the doors of a traditional church, we recognize we cannot continue to do church the way it’s always been done.

    We want to open a coffee house where people gather in the midst of their everyday lives and slow down long enough to have a mocha latte and a conversation or two. We want to be the love of Christ in our community. Instead of expecting the unchurched to come into our traditional church building and sit on 17^th century chairs we call pews or sing 18^th century songs we call hymns and listen to a 19^th century instrument that we call a pipe organ and say we’re out of date (Rick Warren) we want to rub shoulders with our neighbors on a regular basis by having a ministry of proximity.

    We’re not looking to change the message. The message of Jesus Christ never changes. The way we deliver that message needs to change. We believe it needs an Extreme Makeover: Church Edition. We, in Plymouth, are calling our remodeling of the way we do church: Café Church. We want to offer a place where the disconnected and disillusioned can be welcomed home to a loving relationship with God.
